September Strawberries

Today was your first trip to out local U-PICK Strawberry Farm.
You love berries.
Unfortunately, someone forgot to give you the memo on not to eat the green parts.
 You ate...
 ...and ATE!
"Hey You! Go get me some more berries!"

Oh, it was fun!
You must visit Cousin Saucy's blog to see more!
Picure it, beautiful day, serene picnic in a field then a few quiet calm pictures with my sweet boys.
You want the real story now?
Husband is on call, O.R. can page him at anytime to rush in and fix a brain.  Slight stressor.
He's fine, I'm the only one stressed.
Where do we go?
Great, a map, I am hopeless with maps AND I'm driving.
Sweet husband can't drive and talk brain-well he can but it is illegal to talk on your cell and drive.  Bluetooth? Don't ask, it was only last week I figured out how to eject the CD from the music box in my jeep-cell phone stuff is years away for me.
We get there.
Outfits check.
Props check.
Boys are all fed, the baby has slept (a small miracle) no reason for any crankiness.
Well, somebody should have told the baby.  The smile above-I have no idea where it came from photoshop is my guess.  Maybe it is magic. I didn't think he smiled the whole time.
These girls are magical I tell you.
We pack up, the forest is silent again.
Screaming baby smiles as soon as Daddy puts him in his car seat.
The day went nothing like I had envisioned.
But wow. Look at this picture.  Amazing.
Don't miss out next year!

monster cookies

I am so excited to be part of Halloween Spooktacular with the great girls at eighteen25!
I just love all the wonderful talent and ideas they have scared up for us!
I hope you enjoy this sweet and not so scary Halloween idea for kids.
Monster cookies are a huge hit each year at our Halloween party out here on the prairies.  Monster cookies are a great all ages activity even those tricky teens enjoy!
It is a good idea to have everything prepared in advance.  I do it all the night before I plan to do the activity.
To Do List:
1. Make sugar cookies shapes.  Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe.  I use a variety of  well washed shape cookie cutters from  son's play doh bin.  The teacher in me just has to sneak in a little learning!
2. Make icing. I use 1 cup of icing sugar, 1 egg white and few drops of lemon juice.  Add drips of water until you reach the consistency you desire.  A perfect amount for each squeeze bottle.
3. Eye Balls.  You can buy these pre-made (Wilton, I love you.)  Or you can make your own.
See here for tutorial I did a while back.
Now all you have to do is lay it out and let the kids create!
 Be creative!
 Be Scary!

If you were a teacher (or a teacher who is now a Mom and loves to sneak in learning any activity possible...) may group cookies according to number of eyes, colour or shape and ask your kids to tell you what is the same or different about the cookies you are about to eat.

Or at snack time play a little guessing game.."I am thinking of eating the cookie with two eyes, and pink icing.  Which cookie do you think I am going to eat?"

Have a Monsterously Great Halloween!
Thanks for having me to the Ghouls at eighteen25!

how to make eyes

This is a quick and easy way to make eyes.
Eyes for what you may ask?
Eyes for anything edible!
I've used them for cookies, cake pops, cakes and even veggies!
Really, so easy you will want to start putting eyes on everything today!
Get your parchement paper ready.
Your icing in white and black.  (I use 1 cup icing sugar, 1 egg white and a few drops of water, so easy!)
Use a small tip or a baggie with a hole or a squeese bottle like me.
This is not rose making class, it is much easier!
Get ready to fill your page with white dots!
For pairs make them beside each other so they are close to the same size.
Be creative, big, small make them all!
I let my white drops dry for about an hour then I add the black.

Let them dry over night.  You will know when they are done. They will slide right off the paper.
I made a few funny eyes that were a huge hit with my son!
The finished product ready for use!  Apply them right before serving, moisture will cause the black to black into the white. (they ones you buy don't do that!)

You will be an eye making machine in no time!
Watch for Friday's post to see what I used these eyes for!

40th birthday

My good friend from university was in town.
And she was having a birthday.
(look above the r, that is her and I when big brother was just born!)
This old friend and I had many nights of fun in the 90's.  Many many.
 She loves doggies.

 She loves babies.
She loves her boys. She has 2 boys just like me but she had them at the same time! Crazy.
She has an awesome sister just like me too.
 And great family.

 Sweet parents.

Her family is seriously so great.
I am lucky to call these people friends!
Can't wait to plan your 80th Tara!
